Lauréate du Premier Prix du prestigieux concours international Young Concert Artists à New York en 2003, ainsi que du Concours International Arturo Bonucci à Rome, Laura Buruiana s’impose rapidement sur la scène internationale comme une violoncelliste à la fois virtuose et profondément expressive.

Née à Bucarest, elle se forme au Lycée de Musique « Georges Enesco », puis à l’Université Nationale de Musique de Bucarest, avant de poursuivre un master à la Hochschule für Musik de Cologne dans la classe de Frans Helmerson.

Elle fait ses débuts en soliste à la Philharmonie de Berlin en 2006 dans le Concerto de Chostakovitch avec le Berliner Sinfoniker, sous la direction de James Gaffigan. Depuis, elle se produit avec de nombreux orchestres internationaux, parmi lesquels l’Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, la Philharmonie de Bucarest, la Philharmonie de Shanghai, ou encore plusieurs orchestres américains.

Invitée de festivals majeurs tels que le Festival George Enescu, le Festival de Rheingau ou Young Euro Classic à Berlin, elle se produit également dans des salles prestigieuses comme le Concertgebouw d’Amsterdam, le Konzerthaus de Berlin ou le Kennedy Center à Washington.

Sa discographie, saluée par la critique (plusieurs distinctions « 5 Diapasons »), comprend des enregistrements chez Naxos, Coviello Classics, Avie Records et Zig-Zag Territoires.

Docteure en musique, Laura Buruiana mène également une activité pédagogique importante. Elle enseigne depuis 2014 au Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Brest, où elle développe des projets transversaux et pédagogiques innovants.

Parallèlement, elle explore le violoncelle baroque et la viole de gambe, enrichissant son approche artistique d’une recherche constante entre tradition et modernité

Awarded First Prize at the prestigious Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York in 2003, as well as First Prize at the Arturo Bonucci International Competition in Rome, Laura Buruiana quickly established herself on the international stage as a cellist of both virtuosity and profound expressiveness.

Born in Bucharest, she studied at the “George Enescu” Music High School before continuing at the National University of Music in Bucharest. She later completed her Master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne in the class of Frans Helmerson.

She made her solo debut at the Berlin Philharmonie in 2006, performing Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with the Berliner Sinfoniker under the baton of James Gaffigan. Since then, she has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras worldwide, including the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, the Bucharest Philharmonic, the Shanghai Philharmonic, and several American orchestras.

She is regularly invited to major international festivals such as the George Enescu Festival, the Rheingau Festival, and Young Euro Classic in Berlin, and has performed in prestigious venues including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Berlin, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Her discography, critically acclaimed and awarded multiple distinctions (including several “Diapason d’Or”), includes recordings for labels such as Naxos, Coviello Classics, Avie Records, and Zig-Zag Territoires.

Holding a doctorate in music, Laura Buruiana is also deeply committed to teaching. Since 2014, she has been a professor at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional in Brest, where she develops innovative pedagogical and interdisciplinary projects.

Alongside her modern cello practice, she explores historical performance on baroque cello and viola da gamba, enriching her artistic voice through a dialogue between tradition and modernity.
